The Physical Therapy Department of Southwest Memorial Hospital works closely with patients and their physicians to provide exercise and rehabilitation of muscle groups, joints, and areas of the body that have been traumatized by injury or surgery. The department offers strengthening and work conditioning programs. Gait training, crutch and walker training are available for those patients who are unstable after surgery or injury.

A variety of modalities are incorporated for the patients treatments, including electrical stimulation, manual manipulation, dry needling, heat and ice, and exercise programs using a plethora of gym equipment on site and home exercise programs designed with the patient’s specific goals in mind.

Physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Patients include accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries and cerebral palsy. They help mobilize patients following surgery such as hip and knee replacement. Therapists provide specialized and individualized evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages, working closely with physicians and the nursing staff to ensure quality patient care.

Physical Therapists have either a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral Degree and are licensed by the State of Colorado. Physical Therapy Assistants hold Associate degrees and are trained to work closely with and follow through with programs designed by Physical Therapists. Physical therapy aides are trained specifically to work with physical therapists.
