Francis Goldshmid, MD is a family medicine physician who is fellowship-trained in surgical obstetrics. He is originally from Philadelphia, PA, and is a first generation Russian-American. He attended medical school at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX and completed his family medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He then completed his maternal-child health fellowship at the same institution, during which time he also spent some months providing surgical obstetric services overseas in Uganda. Soon after, he met his partner, Kelsey Anderson, RD, LD, CNSC, and after both practicing in the very rural west Texas town of Alpine for the last year, they decided to relocate to the greener pastures of the beautiful Four Corners area. He is fluent in Russian and near-fluent in Spanish. His interests outside of medicine include making music, long-boarding, exploring nature, organic chemistry, and Buddhism. He and his partner are absolutely thrilled to be working with Southwest Health and to have the honor and privilege of caring for the patients here.

He will practice alongside Marcelyn LePique, FACOG, Kameo Smith, DO, and Erin Schmitt, FACOG, MPH, DO. To schedule an appointment, contact us at 970-565-4291.

Dr. Schmitt is an OB/GYN, specializing in obstetrics and minimally invasive gynecological surgery. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She graduated with honors from University of New England, College Of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and in 2010 with a Master of Public Health.

Dr. Schmitt is originally from Massachusetts and received her training in Portland, Maine. Dr. Schmitt was a health volunteer for over 2 years in the Peace Corps in Togo, Africa after college which became the most influential pieces of her life that directed her into healthcare. She knew she wanted to practice obstetrics because she enjoyed being a part of such an important and special part of a woman and family’s life and wanted to be able to provide care in those special moments.

As a 3rd year medical student, she worked with a physician in New York who had a wonderful community practice where realized how much she loved the spectrum of care for women of all ages. She developed a passion for operating as well during her years of training, and knew she wanted to be immersed in a community and provide care for women. Dr. Schmitt feels it’s so important to live in the community where she practices because it is critical for women to have care, close to home.

Dr. Schmitt completed her residence in Shiprock, New Mexico and worked there for 4 years. She is passionate about caring for underserved populations. Through her travel around the world, she developed a special appreciation for meeting new people, learning about different cultures and having new experiences. She has been a part of mission trips to Peru where she did gynecological surgery and was able to travel back to Togo to reconnect with the community and see familiar faces.

In her free time, she and her husband love to travel and have visited Indonesia and Israel. She enjoys running, yoga and skiing and is looking forward to ski season. Together they have a new baby boy, Liam, who was born earlier in 2017.

Dr. Schmitt is accepting new OB and gynecology patients at Southwest Medical Group, Market Street.

Kameo Smith, DO grew up in Loveland, Colorado and attended medical school in Pomona California at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. She completed her residency in Greeley, Colorado. She directed a Community Health Center in Socurro, New Mexico. She has 2 dogs, loves to read, travel, scrap book, and watch the Broncos.

Smith said for many patients, prenatal care can feel routine, These appointments help doctors and nurses build stronger relationships with patients.“When people aren’t comfortable for whatever reason, they are more anxious,” Smith said. “So I think making a patient feel comfortable and at ease with something that is a very natural process is extremely important.”

Smith says when she counsels patients about what to expect in labor, she tells them to keep their options open. In her experience, things don’t always go as planned, but that doesn’t mean they don’t go well.

“It’s one of those things in life you have very little control over – and that is OK,” she said. “You have to be flexible, and respond to things as they change so you can have a safe outcome for everyone. Communication is a huge part of that.”

Now accepting new obstetrical patients.
