He then completed his maternal-child health fellowship at the same institution, during which time he also spent some months providing surgical obstetric services overseas in Uganda. He is fluent in Russian and near-fluent in Spanish. His interests outside of medicine include making music, long-boarding, exploring nature, organic chemistry, and Buddhism. She completed her residency in Greeley, Colorado. She directed a Community Health Center in Socurro, New Mexico. She has 2 dogs, loves to read, travel, scrap book, and watch the Broncos.

Smith said for many patients, prenatal care can feel routine, These appointments help doctors and nurses build stronger relationships with patients.“When people aren’t comfortable for whatever reason, they are more anxious,” Smith said. “So I think making a patient feel comfortable and at ease with something that is a very natural process is extremely important.”

Smith says when she counsels patients about what to expect in labor, she tells them to keep their options open. In her experience, things don’t always go as planned, but that doesn’t mean they don’t go well.

“It’s one of those things in life you have very little control over – and that is OK,” she said. “You have to be flexible, and respond to things as they change so you can have a safe outcome for everyone. Communication is a huge part of that.”

Now accepting new obstetrical patients.
